Three Stripes and You’re Out

To say that Jill likes stripes is an understatement.  When she looked through her closet, in anticipation of our school shopping, she realized that she could wear a striped shirt every day of the week and STILL have some to spare.  Seriously?!?

While we did find some unstriped shirts on our journey she did still manage to slip at least one striped shirt into the bag.  It’s hard to break and addiction.  We will take it slowly and possibly have an intervention later.

This kid always has a hard time choosing her treat.  (She feels like she doesn’t need anything and feels guilty for getting something just because.)  This year is no exception.  We looked through a lot of things (hence the flower power headband and fox hat) but she found some jammies she adored at the very first store we went to and didn’t pull the trigger.  I will be going back to get those for her because I know she will love them!

Of course the standard questions still needed to be asked and answered so we have a complete collection though the years:

What are you most looking forward to this year? – Getting back to school and seeing my friends.  (This girl has always loved a good routine!)

What are you most afraid of this year? – Not being able to see my friends enough.  (This is the first opportunity for kids in her grade to take classes at the local community college through the Running Start program.  A lot of her friends are choosing to take some or all of their classes there and she is not sure how much she will see them on campus.  Just when you think you know what you are doing, right kid?)

This year our shopping trip was slightly different because we went during the day instead of at night.  That is because Jill is now a working girl with a very unpredictable schedule.  We hurried home for a quick dinner before she started her shift.  I’m so proud of this kid.  I told her to go get a job this summer and she did.  She is really the best employee because she is mostly gluten and dairy free.  That means that she hardly samples any of the cookies or frozen yogurt she sells!

It’s going to be a good year for this kid.  Busy…but good!  (I wonder if she can talk TCBY into striped uniform shirts.  That would really complete the picture for her!)

PS- (Or really PSA) Jill was fitted for undergarments this year too.  The gal started out by measuring her rib cage, etc.  Then, she had to get a piece of paper so she could do the math.  I had no idea what sort of complicated equations went into calculating a bra size but we waited for the verdict.  When the gal came back with two, off the wall possibilities I asked what the math was.  Turns out this incredibly difficult calculation was 28+4.  Um, seriously?!?  And she got it wrong?!?  Listen people, I can’t stress how important it is to pay attention to math…in second grade!  That is my Public Service Announcement for the day.  You are welcome.
